  • Risk of death statistic

Capt Tom, I am reviewing the videos in preparation for my flight in four days and in one you mention that one's risk of death is slightly higher when sleeping in your own bed for 8 hours than it is when flying on a plane to Europe for 8 hours. Is this still the case? This makes flying seem ridiculously safe. How could this be that you are more likely to die in your own bed than you are in a plane?

The last crash of a major U.S. airliner was November 11. Meanwhile, about 57,800 people have died in fires. Most fire fatalities happen when people are asleep.
